Barrie Barrington is my coffee buddy from my day job at Douglas College, and as soon as I heard about Barrie's new cat Ayberk I knew he had to be a Van City Kitty. Luckily it didn't take much convincing for Barrie to share the story of this awesome kitten:

Nickname: Berky

Breed/Colouring: Turkish Van

Hood: Ladner

Habits: Playing like crazy in and out of the water

Hangouts: Under the bed

Other info: We have never had a kitten after twenty years of adopting adult cats. So we decided to get a young one from a breeder. We saw Turkish Van cats at a cat show years ago and decided we would like to make one part of our family. However, no one in Canada breeds them, so we had to look south of the border. Fort Wayne, Indiana was where we found him.

Turkish Vans are a naturally-occurring breed from Turkey and breeders only maintain the breed so they are healthy and hearty.

This breed also likes to play in water and can swim very well due to broad shoulders and strong bodies—very strong. Some say Vans are not cuddly, but this little guy sure snuggles—when he is in the mood. Of course, being a kitten still he is very energetic and, most of the time, hard to pin down. He spends a lot of this energy playing fetch with balls. He returns a ball to the thrower (me) and waits till I toss it again. Almost like a dog.

Name: Ayberk

Check out this video of Ayberk playing in the bathtub! He also squeaks at bubbles and pounces at swans.
