The Grey Cup celebrates a hundred games with coin worth a hundred cents!!!

It can't be easy being the Grey Cup, living in the shadow of Lord Stanley's cup in a hockey crazed nation. That's why the Royal Canadian Mint's decision to feature the trophy on a circulation coin is such a classy one.

It can't be easy being the Grey Cup, living in the shadow of Lord Stanley's cup in a hockey crazed nation. That's why the Royal Canadian Mint's decision to feature the trophy on a circulation coin is such a classy one. The cup is a great piece Canadian history and one of the oldest annually awarded championship trophies in the world. Produced in 1909 for forty eight bucks the trophy has been through a lot in it's time. It's been lost, broken, and even held for ransom once;  the CFL refused to pay up and the trophy was located a couple of months later in a storage locker. Your Hometown BC Lions have six Grey Cup wins and are, of course the defending CFL champions. They were also responsible for keeping the cup Canadian, defeating the Baltimore Stallions, the first ever American team to play for the trophy in the 1994 championship. I'll let someone else spill the beans about who let Baltimore steal away with the cup the following season.
