Today's dog featured in Dogtown Vancouver is Bean, Theodora L's pup. Here's what she had to say about him...

BREED: West Highland Terrier.

HOOD: Commercial Drive.

FAVOURITE SNACK: Zukes peanut butter treats.

OTHER INFO: His name is Bean (formally Bibi) and he's a five-year-old (estimate) West Highland Terrier rescued from downtown Taiwan. He's been with us for a week, now, and I can't imagine my life without him. His story is pretty incredible.

He spent the first four years of his life living in a crate at a puppy mill. He was dropped off at a kill shelter in downtown Taiwan (where there are an estimated 80,000 dogs without homes) and the organization CERA found him, there. He was in very poor shape, skin and bones, with skin issues and a terrible wound on his mouth. As a young dog, he was likely attacked and had part of his lip taken off. As a result, his face is slightly deformed and he looks like he has this wicked smile (or a snarl, depending on how you look at it.) He was also devocalized at some point (a practice I do not support.)

When I first discovered him, I took one look, and said to myself "well, there we have it. That's my dog, right there."

NAME: Bean.
