Chinatown’s Sai Woo Want to Make the Neighbourhood Glow (Again)

If you’ve walked past Chinatown’s Sai Woo , you may have noticed a little sign in their window asking for help.

If you’ve walked past Chinatown’s Sai Woo, you may have noticed a little sign in their window asking for help. No, not help wanted, Sai Woo has been trying to track down their building’s original neon sign that dates back to the 1950s, the peak of the Vancouver's neon glow.

According to Sai Woo, the city was once aglow with some 19,000 neon signs—one for every 18 people, second only to Las Vegas! In lieu of finding the original, Sai Woo has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund an exact replica of the neon masterpiece in hopes of paying tribute to Chinatown’s glowing past. If nothing else, it will certainly brighten up E Pender!

The new sign will be a perfect replica of the old Sai Woo sign, measuring in at an impressive 80" wide by 72" tall. For every $1 you contribute, you’ll receive $1 off at their restaurant. Their food is delicious, so it’s kind of a win-win.
