Vancouver's cat café has found homes for nearly 500 cats so far

Since its launch at the tail end of 2015, Vancouver's first--and only--cat cafe, the aptly named Catfe, has been incredibly popular, and they're nearing a record mark of cats adopted.

As of the start of January 2018, Catfe has helped 490 kitties find new forever homes.

It's an impressive feat for the business, which operates on a reservation system to keep the number of guests capped so as not to overwhelm the dozen or so cats present at the time. New cats come into the fold as soon as others are adopted out.

If you haven't been yet or want to head back, there's one important update to note: Catfe is taking the month of January off to refresh the cat lounge, but will open on select days to offer sales on select merchandise. Or, as they say, "meowchandise."

Further proof 2018 may yet be the year of the cat in Vancouver: This summer we will experience Meowfest, the "ultimate festival for cat lovers."

But if you can't wait that long, this live feed from a Metro Vancouver kitten rescue might fill in that furry gap. Purrrrrrrfect!
