The Canadians went 4-2 through round-robin, with both losses coming against Triple Crown Colorado, before beating Canada Elite and New Zealand for a berth in the championship.

Softball is making its return to the Olympics at the 2020 Tokyo Games. It was part of the Olympic program from 1996 to 2008 before being removed ahead of the 2012 Games.

Canada qualified for all four Olympic Games that had softball with its best finish in 2008, placing fourth in Beijing.
