Squamish’s Nelson Winterburn has looked out onto Howe Sound for decades, but has never seen anything like this.
On Tuesday, he saw a pod of four orcas while standing beside the boat-launch ramp at Porteau Cove.

“I had just seconds of warning and fast walked to the boat ramp and changed my camera lens on the fly,” he said. “I have lived in Squamish nearly 50 years and this is my first sighting of orcas in Howe Sound.”
