An afternoon spent petting puppies and eating pie, all for a good cause sounds pretty great, and on Sunday one Metro Vancouver bakeshop is hosting a terrific event that features both - and more.

Port Moody's Gabi & Jules Bakery is raising funds to sponsor and name a litter of Pacific Assistance Dogs (PADS) puppies, and they need your help. This Sunday, September 8, they're holding a BBQ and pie event, and there will be pups on hand to play with.

Bakery owners Lisa and Patrick Beecroft named their business after their two daughters, 7-year-old Gabi and 11-year-old Jules who is autistic.

About half of the dogs that go through PADS end up being adopted out to families who have children with special needs, including those on the autism spectrum.

“Holding this fundraiser is another way that we want to give back to the autism community. And one day, we do hope to get a VIP dog for Juliana!" says Lisa Beecroft.

The Beecrofts hope to raise $20,000 at the fundraiser, which is the average cost associated with raising, feeding, training, and veterinary care required for a litter of PADS puppies.

The Gabi & Jules PADS is a family-friendly BBQ-style gathering, and each ticket includes a burger, drink, and slice of pie (vegetarian options will be available).

Attendees can also enjoy live music, face painting, a raffle and door prizes, and plenty of pups on hand for petting.
