Northern B.C. transportation booster program launched

The program aims to increase capacity for passenger transportation services and improve existing services.

Northern Development Initiative Trust is currently accepting applications for the Northern Community Transportation Booster Program to support passenger transportation planning capacity within Northern B.C.

The program is based on findings from the Northern Inter-Community Transportation Study, outlining a need for increased planning for transportation in communities across the region.

Local and Indigenous governments are eligible for the funding, with the program aiming to increase their capacity for passenger transportation services, improve existing services, or advance any of the study's recommendations.

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure provided $500,000 in funding to support the booster program.

“Transportation connectivity is vital for the growth and well-being of our communities. Since the loss of Greyhound services, our communities have felt the pressing need for sustainable transportation options," said Joel McKay, CEO, Northern Development Initiative Trust in a press release.

Applications will be accepted until January 31, 2024.
