Partisan cheapshot spoiled Layton cartoon

To the editor: Re: "Cartoon," Aug. 26. Ok, there's a time and a place right? Geoff Olson uses Jack Layton's passing (a great Canadian statesman and politician) to yet again slag the Conservative government, as if Harper had something to do with it.

Sit back, reflect on a man who will be sorely missed, and enjoy the sunshine. Just don't forget to take that big stick out of your butt first.

To the editor:

I suggest that Olson's Friday "cartoon" was in very poor taste. When the majority of Canadians, regardless of political stripe, are honouring Jack Layton for his contribution to our country, why would Olson choose a cheap political shot at our Prime Minister? No one should be surprised at Olson's personal politics, but could he not have put them behind him just for one day? There are so many funny but kind remarks he could have made about Layton. I think it was Jack's humourous approach to life that endeared him to most Canadians.
