A Little Bit More, Little Bit More

Aside from the fact he didn't play Figured Me Out nor She Needs Me nor Green Light, a bunch of my favourite songs, Jamie Lidell threw down the soul, hard & slick in front of a lot of individuals that kind of looked like him last night at Venue.

Aside from the fact he didn't play Figured Me Out nor She Needs Me nor Green Light, a bunch of my favourite songs, Jamie Lidell threw down the soul, hard & slick in front of a lot of individuals that kind of looked like him last night at Venue. The sound was a lot better for this live gig than the couple times I attended Venue for sets from the Twelves and Classix and it was a nice surprise (just like the sound at Malkin Bowl for LCD SS). They also removed the couches and tables in the middle of the floor to fit in the larger crowd. And like the LCD SS show, I'm not sure if the soundsystem at Venue is revamped or Lidell's got a really good sound crew (or both) but the sounds were booming deep at Lidell's show....

MORE PICS

Like you would expect from real true performers, Lidell's live versions of his songs were bigger and bolder. He's got a nice range of sounds from the Motown type soul, harder funk bottoms to the glitchy beepy beats and self-vocal loops and layers (the one man show part) and some of the folky funk he's got on his new album working with Beck. While I'm still trying to come to terms with not hearing Figured Me Out live, I'm pretty stoked with Venue as a live gig joint.

Thanks to Erin from Timbre Productions for continuing to bring in the dope shows and accommodating VIA.
