Much of the Last of Us season two was shot in Vancouver, including scenes in the Orpheum Theatre.

A new augmented reality Last of Us experience has been created for fans of the TV show in downtown Vancouver.

The second season of the hit series was shot around Vancouver in 2024; the season finale was broadcast on Sunday, May 25.

Now, Destination Vancouver is launching Survive Vancouver, giving fans a chance to see locations that were used in the show.

"[It's] a mobile, browser-based augmented reality (AR) experience that transports users into a world inspired by The Last of Us, right here on the streets where it was filmed," reads a press release from the tourism agency.

The experience was developed with technology from the company that created Pokémon Go.

The four locations in Survive Vancouver are the Orpheum Theatre, Chinatown, Le Magasin Alley, and Harbour Green Park.

At the locations, fans can find hidden digital props, codes and clues.

Once all clues have been uncovered, a set of coordinates is unveiled, leading to a prize.

"A limited-edition, hand-illustrated postcard featuring one of Vancouver’s iconic filming locations, reimagined in post-apocalyptic detail," reads the press release.

This type of augmented reality experience could be the future of tourism, according to Destination Vancouver's Stefan Hawes.

"By using augmented reality tied to real filming locations, we aren’t just telling Vancouver’s story, we’re letting visitors step inside it," he says in the press release. "It’s immersive, interactive and a glimpse into the future of tourism.”

Season three of the show is expected to return to Vancouver, according to CBR.com.

Destination Vancouver has put together another page exploring The Last of Us in Vancouver.
