Every day we share a single photo from our Flickr Pool shot by one of our faithful and talented readers (that’s you!).
The short days of winter this year inspired me to practice night photography more than I had in years previously. I found it the perfect solution for myself - as opposed to bemoaning the fact that there was no time to photograph during daylight hours, I could actually keep burning film all winter long. But I started out slowly.
Yet, as soon as I realized that a photograph taken at night need not be of an 'epic' subject to be interesting - the very nature of night photography being the study of how light falls onto a subject - I started making more frequent trips to both the film store and the processing lab. And I began to progress. Don't get me wrong; I still have an eye out for the 'epic', but also appreciate the 'non-epic', the often-overlooked. And that is what I like so much about the Untitled photograph below from refreshment_66 - it is quiet and unassuming, but a wonderful study of light.
refreshment_66 has built up a good-sized set of night images on his flickr account, worth taking a look at if such photography tickles your fancy as well.
