I am constantly finding myself amazed by the wondrous complexities of nature. This time of year brings about a lot of change in our corner of the world, and if you look really closely, every single day is different from the last.

With this in mind, I was really drawn to a photograph by Thomas Powell called Van Tree revisited. It seems Thomas is a visitor to Vancouver and, as the title would suggest, he has shot this tree on a previous visit as well.

Now, I'm not an arbourist, botanist or dendrologist or anything - nor am I a linguist for that matter, so I hope I got all those fancy plant-learning words right. But I am going to assume that the leaves of this tree (which be appearing fairly soon) are very similar in shape to its silhouette, which to me would be another example of the awesomeness of patterns and repetition in nature.

Gary

*edit: if you look at the photo in the flickr pool as a thumbnail, it looks even more like a leaf.
