Every day we share a single photo from our Flickr Pool shot by one of our faithful and talented readers (that’s you!)

I am susceptible to a certain degree of influence, I can admit it. I like a good frame-within-a-frame, an empty lot can fascinate me to no end, and I am to this day photographically obsessed with mechanical billboards. In fact, due to the location of today's photograph I almost went on a big, rambling post about historical train stations in Vancouver. Luckily, I caught myself in time before it was too late.

So on to today's photograph - it comes to us courtesy of Fabien Burki and features all three elements mentioned above. In Transition, Fabien captured the motion of a mechanical billboard, creating a frame-within-a-frame - all contained inside a wondrous vacant lot. That the lot in question was the location of the old Great Northern Railway Station - completed in 1917 (two years before Pacific Central Station, visible in behind) but demolished in 1965 - is just another layer in play.

A final note: I love that the advertisements combine wine glassware and beer - somehow it reminds me of showing up late to a keg party back in the day.
