A free traditional Japanese folk dance festival is being held in Steveston this weekend.
The Steveston Buddhist Temple is hosting its annual Bon Odori Festival from 5 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, July 19.
This festival is a celebration held during the Obon season, a time when Buddhists honour the spirits of their ancestors who are believed to return for a brief visit.
Visitors are invited to experience the cultural heritage of Obon, connect with community members and enjoy the Bon Odori dance, which will begin at 6:30 p.m.
Other festival highlights include food, children's activities, door prizes and a traditional Buddhist service.
The Steveston Buddhist Temple at 4360 Garry St. is one of the oldest Buddhist organizations in Canada.
Their first temple was built in the heart of Steveston village in 1928, and the current temple was built in 1963.
