Gastown will host St Patrick's Day celebrations as the historic Vancouver neighbourhood is having a free street party on Carrall Street on March 17, 2024.

Vancouver's historic Gastown neighbourhood will be viridescent this weekend.

That's a word that means "greenish or becoming green."

Enough with the English lesson. It's all about the Irish on March 17 as Gastown is holding a street party while some of the nearby pubs are throwing Irish-themed parties. Other pubs are holding Irish-themed events, while others will have Irish-themed prizes and music. One will even have Irish dancers.

Out on the street, things will kick off at 10 a.m. and run to 6 p.m. with performances from Celtic dancers, traditional music, a beer garden, and more on the 200-block of Carrall Street between Water and Cordova streets.

It should be noted here that the forecast for this weekend is outdoors-friendly.

Here's the schedule:

  • 11 a.m. – 12:45 p.m.: Katie Stewart
  • 1 - 2 p.m.: Pipers and O-Brien’s School of Dancers
  • 2 - 4 p.m.: Stephan Fox
  • 4 - 6 p.m.: Pipers and O-Brien’s Celtic Dancers

Meanwhile, the Blarney Stone (yes, the one from the Adam Project) will be celebrating its 51st St. Patrick's Day with a long day of fun running from 9 a.m. (for brunch) to 2 a.m. Monday including everything from pipers to a DJ. It's $35 to get in.

Other pubs in the area going green for the day include Smith's Irish Pub, Six Acres Pub, the Portside Pub, the Lamplighter, and the Cambie.

Take note, due to construction in Maple Tree Square in Gastown, there are several road closures in place in the area.
