It's official, summer has arrived in Vancouver. The long term forecast calls for sun followed by lots more sun. Here are a few upcoming events happening around town for you and your family to make the most of these sunny days:
Fun Fair is the Powell Street Festival's first ever two-day children’s workshop series, and an opportunity for children and youth to learn new techniques and skills from practicing artists. FUN FAIR features local Japanese Canadian and Asian Canadian artists teaching kids how to:
- make a stop-motion video
- create their own plush toy
- take great action shots with their digital cameras
- design their own imaginative tote bags and pillow cases
- embrace their inner fashion designer in a t-shirt-printing class
- make original buttons
- hand-screen their own cards using gocco screens and oil-based inks
Sunrise Summer Festival
East Village (formerly Hastings Sunrise)
Saturday July 7th
10am - 4pm
Thousands of folks flock to Hastings Street every year to celebrate the beginning of summer. In addition to food, performers and music for people of all ages there is a large street hockey game taking place through out the afternoon. Festivities take place in the large parking lot behind the London Drugs.
Sunday July 8th
Begins at Noon
Come on out to Surrey's annual gay-pride festival for lots of activities and events. This year's festival theme is "Bridge the Rainbow." Enjoy an afternoon of activities including a stonewall youth dance, a cabaret night, and a community picnic.
East Mall and Thunderbird Avenue (UBC)
Tuesday July 10th
Kids race starts at 4:15
Bring the kids out to the UBC Campus for the second annual UBC Grand Prix Kids Race. The Kids Race provides an opportunity for kids 12 and under to race on the course just like the pros! There will be a designated KIDS ZONE area equip with activities, face painting, bouncy castles, prizes and bike safety tips for all participants. Kids must register - for ages 5 through 8 and 9 - 12.
