Come and take part in their free, quick & simple demo classes at various markets (from mid-September to mid-October) that will teach you how to pickle, dry, can, ferment, freeze all sorts of fruits and vegetables to be enjoyed throughout the winter.
Small kitchen? No problem! You'll learn how to preserve small batches. Free tips and recipe cards will be available for each preservation method. Soon you'll be able to impress your friends by adding fruit leather, party pickles and homemade canned tomato sauce to your winter local food menu...
The 10 minute demos will be repeated throughout the day and will go over all the basics of the featured skill. No registration necessary.
This is the first series in the Markets' new Winter Food in Vancouver initiative funded by Vancity's enviroFund. Go HERE for more details and schedule information. And don't forget to get all the latest goings on at the Market by following them on The Twitter!
I am in love with Purebread's Crack Bar (on left). It's all the goodness of a butter tart, minus the raisins, in a bar. Amazing! I had this one at the Sunday Kitsilano Market, though they do make appearances in the West End.
What have you enjoyed the most at the Market this season?
Leave your comment to enter. Three winners will be picked at random and contacted via email. Winners must pick up their prize at the Trout Lake Market on Saturday, September 18th. Contest closes at 3:00 pm on Friday, September 17.
Good luck!
