New Year's Eve fireworks in downtown Vancouver have once again been cancelled for 2023-2024.

Yet again Vancouver's New Year's Eve fireworks won't exist.

"The Vancouver's New Year's Eve Society deeply regrets to inform the community that there will be no official New Year's Eve celebration in downtown Vancouver,' reads a press release on the organization's site.

The event, branded Concord's NYE Vancouver, won't be happening due to "escalating costs and the highly challenging sponsorship market amidst the current economic conditions," states the release.

The search for sponsors will continue with the hopes of holding an event at the end of 2024; a countdown on the events site is already ticking down to Jan. 1, 2025 (~425 days away).

"This decision has not been made lightly, and we understand the disappointment this may bring to the community

The annual fireworks event hasn't happened since 2020; since then the pandemic and economic factors have led to the formerly annual event's cancellation.

Last year, despite the event being cancelled well in advance of the day, many gathered at Canada Place only to be disappointed by silent skies (which they then shared on TikTok).

Similarly, another holiday season tradition in Vancouver, the Santa Claus Parade, has been cancelled for a fourth consecutive year; for this year and last, the reason was a lack of sponsor.
