If you were to create a Venn diagram where one circle was labeled "cheap" and the other labeled "awesome", the middle point where they cross over could be labeled "Vancouver on the Cheap". In other words, this is a weekly series on things to do and places to go in Vancouver that fall into that magical category of being both cheap and awesome. |
The Firehall Arts Centre is by far one of Vancouver's cultural institutions. Located near Main and Cordova, it brings some of the coolest dance and theatre shows to a neighbourhood that needs it. While their regular ticket prices fall into the affordable-for-theatre-expensive-for-cheapskates category, they do have a fantastic accessibility option: pay-what-you-can matinees! Most of their shows have one Wednesday matinee at 1pm and you can pay whatever you darn well want to. The next one is next Wednesday with their (no joke) truly incredible production of Chelsea Hotel. Can't make it to this one? Browse their upcoming productions, it says right at the top of the show page if they're offering a pay-what-you-can matinee for that one.
