If you were to create a Venn diagram where one circle was labeled "cheap" and the other labeled "awesome", the middle point where they cross over could be labeled "Vancouver on the Cheap". In other words, this is a weekly series on things to do and places to go in Vancouver that fall into that magical category of being both cheap and awesome. |
Vancouver has a ridiculously cool live theatre scene. On top of all the quality work in traditional theatre spaces, we have a host of daring little companies putting on cool little shows. Boca Del Lupo is one of those companies, with their Micro Performance Series. Every year they produce a few works that are short (generally no more than 20 minutes) and performed for small audiences (generally no more than 20 people, sometimes just one at a time). They are little immersive artistic and theatrical gifts, and they are cheap! Tickets are never more than $10 for these little theatre nuggets.
This month they're presenting TJ Dawes, a mainstay of the Fringe Festival circuit, and his piece The Fugue Fugue. I recently saw Dawes' piece Medicine and let me tell you, this guy is a treat to watch. Plus, The Fugue Fugue asks juicy questions: How smart are you? How smart are we as a culture? How much can your brain juggle? Are we getting smarter or dumber? With four performances each night, at 10 bucks a pop, this is one awesome thing that needs to be checked out!
