Video: Vancouver public art comes alive as scary, living house thanks to VFX artist

Just in time for Halloween...

Coal Harbour's LightShed has been a stationary piece of art along the seawall since 2004.

But thanks to Nahuel Letizia it has come alive as a scary, living house. The VFX artist turned the piece of public art into a monster for Halloween in a short video he's shared online.

In the clip the LightShed's legs come alive, arms sprout out of the side, and a mouth gapes open in a jack-o-lantern-like grin. Pieces of wood shake loose as it groans to life, and the window and doorway seemingly turn into eyes for the new monster ready to wreak havoc on the city's west end.

People online are fans of the public art-turned-beast.

"Went from 'why am I watching this?' to 'Holy crap that's good!' Bravo," writes one person.

"It just wants to make a friend, what a winning smile," writes another.

This isn't Letizia's first time creating a Vancouver VFX shot. The professional special effects artist took care of the English Bay Barge with the help of a Kraken in the spring.
