"Naked bicycle people power!"
Vancouver's most eye-catching bike ride is returning this summer, with hundreds of cyclists baring it all along the city's waterfront.
The World Naked Bike Race will take place on Sunday, July 6, with participating cyclists encouraged to follow the "bare-as-you-dare" motto. The sans-clothing fun kicks off at 2 p.m., although organizers underscore that participants aren't required to be nude.
Clothing-optional rights group Naked Iconoclasts Fighting The Yoke (NIFTY) will host a celebratory picnic after the race. Everyone is welcome to attend.
In previous years, participants were encouraged to get creative with their attire, or lack thereof, and wear flashy costumes, cosplay, or bright body paint. Many people cover their bike seats with fake fur. However, fetish gear is not allowed.
While they might not have any other clothing on, cyclists are encouraged to wear shoes, and helmets are mandatory. They should also keep clothing with them because they will need it after the ride.
The free-spirited event started in Vancouver in 2002 and has spread to cities worldwide. The annual ride gives bold cyclists an opportunity to shed their clothing with like-minded folks on a relaxing ride through the city.
