Buddha Chay, which opened at the end of 2022 in Yaletown, closed on June 5, 2023 to relocate the location. The vegetarian Vietnamese restaurant did not say where it would be moving.

Well, that was quick! Vegetarian and vegan-friendly Vietnamese restaurant Buddha Chay announced June 5 the Yaletown restaurant was closed effective immediately, after just about six months in business.

Buddha Chay swiftly slid into the spot at 1269 Hamilton St in the final weeks of 2022. The independent venture replaced another veggie and plant-forward modern Vietnamese restaurant, Do Chay, which was consolidating its operations to just its Kingsway location.

Currently, the Buddha Chay Instagram account's bio section indicates the restaurant is "Closed For Relocation" and a now-expired story posted to the feed indicated much the same.

The restaurant indicates the closure is temporary and owners offer deep gratitude for its customers over the past few months.

"Stay tuned for further updates," Buddha Chay's operators conclude.

Buddha Chay's menu was entirely meat-free, with a number of fully plant-based options. Dishes included modern takes on popular Vietnamese fare, from tapioca "glass" dumplings to pho, and vermicelli and rice bowls.

V.I.A. reached out to Buddha Chay by email to inquire about its relocation plans but did not receive a response.
