New weekly farmers' market launches in Burnaby

Fans of farm-fresh produce, locally-made foods, and delicious eats take note

Fans of farm-fresh produce, locally-made foods, and delicious eats take note: There's a brand new weekly farmers' market that has launched in Metro Vancouver.

Burnaby's Brentwood Artisan Farmers' Market debuted on Sunday, June 14, and will run Sundays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 2150 Alpha Avenue (at Dawson Street)

Featuring around 20 vendors so far, this market is more than just a place to score the ingredients for your next meal or snack. That's because the market was not only purpose-built under B.C.'s COVID-19 pandemic guidelines, but it also offers another way to support local.

The Brentwood Artisan Farmers' Market is the work of Grosvenor, who are behind a massive housing development at the site. Events like the farmers' market, and this summer's "Great Takeout" food truck festival, are part of their "placemaking" endeavours to build community.

“The fresh produce and crafts are the attraction, but so is our pandemic-proofing,” said Bernie Glemas, chair of the Artisan Farmers’ Market Society’s board of directors in a media release. The Artisan Farmers' Market Society also operates three popular other local markets in the region: Ambleside and Lonsdale on the North Shore, and Burnaby's original farmers' market at City Hall.

Here are a few of the vendors lined up to participate in the Brentwood Artisan Farmers' Market:
