Watch: Where to find French Toast the size of your head and more diner classics

Put this on your "best brunch" list!

Looking for one of the best diners near Vancouver? This daytime restaurant from a Top Chef Canada competitor features decadent brunch and lunch dishes, including French Toast the size of your head.

French Toast the size of your head? You'll find that - alongside other modern takes on brunch and lunch classics - at Douce Diner

The North Vancouver daytime spot, which opened in 2019, is run by Top Chef Canada alum Chef Dawn Doucette and team. It's a bright, cozy contemporary diner with a trim menu of approachable, hearty eats made using fresh, local ingredients.

You might also know Douce Diner for its popular fried chicken take-out meals (they call it Douce Coop). The crew here does chicken well - you can even get an Eggs Benny made with a perfectly poached egg perched atop panko-crusted chicken for a decadent breakfast bite.

Speaking of decadent, on the weekends is when they serve their signature French Toast, which is a massive portion of the eggy bread dish that comes topped with lemon curd, mascarpone, and berries.

But if savoury is more your speed, they do a wicked good French Onion Grilled Cheese (don't sleep on the side of their homemade pickles, either). A few dashes of their house-made hot sauce will kick things up a notch, too.

I recently (re)visited this lively diner for a weekend feast. Check it out in the video below.

Douce Diner is located at 1490 Pemberton Ave in North Vancouver and is open daily from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
