Vancouverites will no longer have to hit the 'burbs to get their hands on a "Big Mary" or some "taters." Popular Canadian fast food fried chicken chain Mary Brown's is opening a location within the city of Vancouver itself, and it looks like the doors will open sometime this summer.

Mary Brown's is moving in at 6549 Main St in Vancouver's Punjabi Market area at the base of a newer mixed-use building at the corner of 49th Avenue.

Signage is up in the windows and the franchise restaurant is in the hiring stages for the Vancouver location.

Mary Brown's is known for its fried chicken pieces, "Big Mary" fried chicken sandwich, wings, "Pop-Ins" (small chicken bites), and sides like thick fried potato wedges (aka "Taters"), Tater Poutine, mac and cheese, and more. For dessert, they have items like apple hand pies and cheesecake cups.

Canadians were first introduced to the Mary Brown's chicken recipe in 1969 when Pat Tarrant and Cyril Fleming opened their first restaurant in St. John's, Newfoundland, which was called Golden Skillet. A year later they renamed it Mary Brown's and began growing the brand. Mary Brown's currently operates approximately 160 stores across Canada.

While Mary Brown's is a household name in some parts of the country, westward expansion has only picked up steam in recent years. In the Lower Mainland, the chain has outposts chiefly in the Fraser Valley and in Surrey. A North Delta location opened last year
