Back in November 2022, popular New York fast-casual restaurant, The Halal Guys, announced it was opening its first Vancouver location.
After months of anticipation, the shop at 570 Robson St started serving up its signature gyros and platters on July 15, 2023.
Now, after just two years in business, it seems the multi-national franchise has shuttered its sole Vancouver outpost.
Signs on the windows of The Halal Guys announce the restaurant is "permanently closed."
Google echoes the status, and the Vancouver franchise no longer appears on The Halal Guys location finder online.
The area tends to see high turnover among its restaurant tenants, and Halal Guys faced stiff competition. On that one side of the 500-block of Robson alone The Halal Guys was neighbours with The Falafel King and Jerusalem Shawarma (which replaced Toronto-based Middle Eastern chain Paramount Fine Foods in 2024).
Founded by three Egyptian immigrants, The Halal Guys started as a food cart before becoming a booming chain with numerous locations across the U.S., Asia, and the U.K. plus a Canadian location in the Greater Toronto Area.
No closure announcement for the Vancouver shop has been shared by @thehalalguysvancouver on Instagram.
V.I.A. has reached out to the Halal Guys' Vancouver franchisee and will update if any further information is made available.
