Kits Pool concessions gets 60-seat patio expansion, new partnership with top fried chicken spot

Let the summer begin!

Hot on the heels of the news that the iconic saltwater pool at Kits Beach has the green light to open for the season comes word the concessions options at the seaside locale just got a lot hotter.

Last year, the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation debuted its innovative partnership with Batch, transforming a under-utilized deck space into a licensed patio hangout with breathtaking waterfront and mountain views.

Now the parks board has doubled down on its efforts to align with local small hospitality businesses by bringing one of the city's top spots for fried chicken on board.

DownLow Chicken (aka DL Chicken) is on the menu at Batch Kitsilano, giving the concession stand another way to put Canadian food and beverages in the spotlight.

The expanded concessions menu includes some DL Chicken faves, like the OG Sando (fried chicken sandwich) and DL Tenders, with choose-your-own heat index options. Additionally, Kits Pool and beach-goers can check out new options like the Burrito on the DL, the SWagyu Dog, and the Kits All-Beef Burger.

Also new this year is expanded patio seating, with room for 60 more people. The concession stand and pool are located at 2305 Cornwall Ave in Kitsilano.

Partnerships means more on offer at an 'epic location'

“This partnership has been an incredible way to connect with the Kits community,” said John Negrin, owner of Batch, in a media release. “We’ve always believed that public spaces can—and should—be lively, welcoming places that bring people together. We're thrilled to partner with DownLow Chicken and continue our collaboration with the Vancouver Park Board as we grow into this epic location.”

“Kitsilano has always been a neighbourhood full of energy and great food culture. We can't wait to be part of that and bring the heat to the community with our fried chicken creations," added DownLow Chicken co-founder Doug Stephen.

Along with the Kits Pool concessions stand, Batch operates a shipping container pop-up bar with snacks and live entertainment at the Plaza of Nations along False Creek.

The Kitsilano Pool concessions stand featuring Batch and DL Chicken will operate this summer on Tuesdays through Fridays from 3 to 10 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 10 p.m.
