One of Metro Vancouver's plant-based restaurants is wrapping up a six-year run this month.
Alysa Ferguson, owner of The Plant Parlour by Down to Earth (known to many as simple "D2E"), shared the news of the impending closure in a heartfelt post on Instagram this week.
The Langley restaurant is a laid-back café serving brunch, lunch, and dinner, showcasing a fully-plant based menu. Dishes include breakfast tacos, "calamari" (made with King Oyster mushrooms and hearts of palm), fried "chicken" sandwiches, pasta, and even a "Little Sprouts" kids menu.
"Nestled in the heart of Walnut Grove we made it our intention to meet guests at the intersection of Health, Compassion and Sustainability and as this Chapter comes to a close I wholeheartedly believe we did that," writes Ferguson in the D2E closure announcement.
Ferguson goes on to reveal that the closure stems from some challenging personal circumstances.
"I’ve never used this platform to share hardship or my personal life but over the past two years I’ve been carrying a lot of grief and it’s been heavy. Really heavy," says Ferguson. "Without the amazing team I have I would have had to close much earlier. I love them all so much and the hardest thing will not be seeing them each day."
The chef/owner continues by sharing she acknowledges this pause in her culinary life and will be focusing on people who need her in her personal life.
Ferguson also encourages D2E customers to visit before the restaurant closes its doors, and expresses gratitude for their guests over the years.
"I can never thank our community enough for showing up and showering us with love and support. We’d love to see you so please come by," she writes.
"Thank you for always showing up for us."
D2E is located at 8912-202 St #100 in Langley. The last day of service will be Sunday, July 13, 2025.
