You can now taste the first collaboration between Port Coquitlam’s breweries and distillery.

Called Last Train to PoCo — a nod to the city’s past — the beer is a West Coast IPA dreamed up by Goldwin Chan, the head brewer at Taylight Brewing, along with his counterparts at Port Coquitlam craft brewers Northpaw, Tinhouse, Patina and the craft distillery Provincial Spirits.

And a portion of its sales will go to a Port Coquitlam charity.

Chan said the brew is coming out now “to let everyone know about our flourishing PoCo brewing scene,” he told The Tri-City News, noting the collaboration is similar to what’s happening in “Yeast Van.”

Chan said the brewers settled on a West Coast IPA with a coriander twist because “I really like hoppier beers and we want people to know that PoCo is capable of producing some really robust, tasty IPAs as well."

Summit Labels, a business located close to Taylight on Kebet Way, was tapped to design and print the labels, which it did at no cost. And Mile 37 donated cans for the fundraiser, with hops and malt provided by Hopzoil, Glacier Hops Ranch, Skagit Valley and Brew Culture.

One dollar from every four-pack of the new brew sold will go to the charity, which will be named at the launch.

Last Train to PoCo is available in cans at Taylight, where it is also on tap, as it is at Tinhouse, Northpaw and Provincial Spirits. (Patina has yet to open the doors to its downtown Port Coquitlam establishment.)
