The Vancouver Art Gallery is getting a brand-new destination restaurant. Called the 1931 Gallery Bistro, the all-day contemporary eatery is set to make its debut later this month.

Drawing inspiration from the year the Vancouver Art Gallery began for the name, the 1931 Gallery Bistro will have seats for over 70 people, in a sleek space framed by concrete columns and "suspended above the gallery’s lobby," describes the Vancouver Art Galley, adding "the interior design of the bistro done by FRANK Architecture & Interiors complements the artistic merits of the building and gallery."

During the summertime, a patio will offer an additional dining space for guests.

Serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, 1931 Gallery Bistro's menu was designed to have a broad appeal, from a romantic night out to a welcoming spot for families, power lunchers, out-of-town visitors, and more.

The food will be "locally-inspired," according to media materials; for example breakfast items will include things like blue chia seed pudding and fresh pastries, while lunch is focused on more grab-and-go selections. Come evening, 1931 Gallery Bistro will be a full-service sit-down restaurant, pouring cocktails, and plating up charcuterie boards and elegant mains like braised B.C. shortribs and cauliflower "steaks."

Additionally, the new restaurant is working to get on board the Vancouver-based Ocean Wise sustainable seafood program, and they will offer diners eco-friendly packaging.

"The gallery is excited to be hosting the new bistro. Ever since the Vancouver Art Gallery opened in 1931, it has presented works that are both local and international with a strong sense of place, contributing significantly to the long-term legacies of Canadian culture," said Marie Dickens, Associate Director, Chief Operating Officer at the Vancouver Art Gallery.

"The Vancouver Art Gallery provides amazing experiences for our audiences and with 1931 Gallery Bistro, is able to offer guests with the best of British Columbia's culinary culture."

The 1931 Gallery Bistro is set to open on Nov. 28, 2019. They are located inside the Vancouver Art Gallery at 750 Hornby Street, and will be open Monday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Tuesday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
