12 Kings Pub was launched by a group of sports and craft beer-loving locals. The venue says it will close down at the end of June 2023

It's "time to hang up the ol' crown" for a popular sports-focused pub in Mount Pleasant. The 12 Kings Pub revealed Tuesday (June 6) that this would be its last month in business.

"It is a sad reality that the next few weeks at 12 Kings will be the last," owners shared in the venue's closing announcement.

Located at 395 Kingsway, 12 Kings was created by a group of sports-loving beer fans who wanted to have a venue for like-minded patrons. They took over the former Locker Room (and before that, Mavericks) on Kingsway and 12th in 2014 and grew a base of patrons who enjoyed the food, craft beer, sports broadcasts, and live entertainment.

"Whether you came here for karaoke on Saturdays, put a team together for trivia on Thursdays, tried out new material on Open Mic comedy on Sundays, performed on Jam night Wednesdays, came here to watch a UFC, boxing, pro wrestling pay per view or even if you just had some amazing wings and a delicious local craft beer while watching sports or pre-gaming before a show downstairs," said owners, "we want to thank you."

The 12 Kings Pub team added more gratitude: "A special thanks to the foosball and pinball community that would always be there no matter what else was happening around them. A huge thank you to our wonderful local craft beer partners. Thank you for making some of the most delicious beer out there. Thank you for all those emergency deliveries!"

Lastly, in its parting message, the 12 Kings crew offered thanks to its staff. "We became more than colleagues, more than friends, but a family. Thank you and love you."

Owners did not offer a reason for the closure in the announcement but did indicate the sports bar would run as-is through June. "It's business as usual until the very end."
