A new spot for pastries, coffee, and sandwiches is filling a long-vacant space in the downtown core.

Bisou, which began on the North Shore in 2006, is adding a third bakery-cafe location to its roster with a move into the Telus Garden building where Glowbal's Nosh used to be

A long-vacant space in a prime downtown Vancouver location is finally getting a new tenant, as local bakeshop-cafe Bisou is set to occupy the spot that was once the home of Glowbal's grab-and-go spot Nosh.

Situated on the ground floor of the swanky Telus Garden building on Georgia, steps from Glowbal's opulent flagship namesake, Nosh was popular pre-pandemic with office dwellers for its casual fare, like salads, pastries, coffee drinks, and other lunch-friendly eats. Nosh opened in 2015, but shuttered during the onset of the pandemic in 2020; Glowbal struggled to find staff to get it off the ground again and by summer 2022 the space was up for lease.

Now, Bisou is at work transforming the restaurant for its concept.

Bisou's roots are on the North Shore, but the brand opened a second cafe location last year on Bidwell in Vancouver.

"Our journey began in 2006 in West Vancouver in a 400-square-foot shop," reads the Bisou website. "It was just us – five close friends with a dream. We wanted to use our pastries as a canvas to tell stories and inspire with impeccable tastes, nostalgic aromas, and artfully made confections."

The bakery's commercial division works with major Canadian grocers, and just about a decade ago Bisou began to supply major hotels in the area like Fairmont and Rosewood with pastries and baked goods. In 2021, Bisou began a partnership with DNATA to supply Turkish Airlines, Indian Airlines, and Emirates.

According to the Bisou website, the business is seeking franchisees to operate Bisou locations. It is not clear if the forthcoming Bisou at Telus Garden is a franchised operation.
