A much-loved Vancouver pizzeria is coming back - with a few key changes

It's going to be a real slice!

Don't Argue was a pizzeria on Main Street in Vancouver from 2014 to 2019. Now veteran pizzeria operators Dom and Frank Morra are taking over and reviving the business as a slice shop inside their Commercial Drive Italian cafe, Soccavo

Fans were gutted in 2019 when Don't Argue shuttered its Main Street pizzeria after five years of serving up its signature pies in Mount Pleasant.

Fast forward to early 2024 and Don't Argue is poised to make a comeback, albeit in a slightly different capacity.

Don't Argue Slice Shop will debut on March 1, and the operation has the old recipes and new operators. The venture will run out of Soccavo, the soccer-themed Italian cafe at 1321 Commercial Dr that opened in the summer of 2022.

Now, here's where things get interesting: Soccavo is owned by brothers Dom and Frank Morra, who also own Victoria Drive's Via Tevere pizzeria in East Van, Straight Out of Brooklyn pizza shops, and the Satimbocca food truck.

They are also the operators of Pizzeria Grano, which wraps up its run March 3 on Main Street - in the same location that Don't Argue was in.

The Morras got the okay from Don't Argue founder Nathaniel Geary to carry on the popular pizza spot's legacy as a slice shop inside Soccavo.

Fans of the original Don’t Argue Pizza will recognize some familiar favourites on the new slice shop menu, with a few creative additions inspired by the Via Tevere team, according to a media release.

The by-the-slice pizza lineup will include classic Margherita in regular and spicy varieties; Pancetta Pineapple; Pesto Ricotta with fresh basil pesto; and Potato Mash topped with whipped potato, red onion, and braised kale.

The name "Don't Argue" stems from Vancouver's long-gone Don't Argue tobacco shop in East Van, which was where Geary was originally going to set up his pizzeria before the deal fell through. The address changed but the name stuck - and who's going to argue with that?

Starting March 1, the Don’t Argue Slice Shop will be open inside Caffe Soccavo from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays and until 10 p.m. on weekends. Pizza slices will be available for dine-in, pick-up or can be ordered for delivery.
