Whistler coffee shop brand opening second Vancouver all-day café location

Guests can expect "specialty coffee, house-made baked goods, a small alcohol menu and an elevated everyday food menu."

A café concept born in Whistler is set to double its presence in Vancouver with a second location opening soon.

Forecast Coffee is the new restaurant tenant at the corner of Hastings and Slocan in Vancouver's "East Village." The all-day coffee shop chain was recently granted its business licence for 2703 E Hastings St. The location is at the base of a new build called 388 Slocan.

The corner was previously the longtime home of Vancouver diner The Slocan, which closed in November 2021 ahead of demolition and the new development.

Forecast made its first foray south into Vancouver in 2021 when it took over the vacant ex-Starbucks Reserve space on Main at 14th.

The concept is that of an all-day café suitable for hangouts, firing up the laptop, or grabbing a bite. The business positions itself as being neighbourhood-centric and connected to the communities in which they operate.

Vancouver's first Forecast café on Main Street features a menu of fresh, approachable fare like salads, wraps, and sandwiches. Brunch dishes include breakfast bowls, eggs on toast, and a few versions of Eggs Benedict. The pastry case is loaded with treats like cinnamon rolls and banana bread.

Speaking of treats, Forecast is also home to the offshoot brand Wilder Cookies, known for its rotating line-up of classic and creative cookie creations, from classic chocolate chip to birthday cake or S'mores.

In addition to coffee and tea, Forecast also does a few cocktails, like Caesars and Victoria's signature coffee cocktail, the Shaft.

For the new East Van café, Forecast plans to do much of the same as in Mount Pleasant, West Vancouver, Whistler, and more: "As an extension to our current line up of cafes, this new location will offer our fantastic specialty coffee, house-made baked goods, a small alcohol menu and an elevated everyday food menu," describes Forecast Coffee in a job listing for the Slocan and Hastings location.

The brand also sells merch and their own line of coffee beans.

No opening date has been revealed for Forecast Coffee on East Hastings Street.
