A 25-year-old Delta man has been sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison after his conviction this week in the 2021 fatal stabbing of a man in Whistler.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) announced on Friday morning that on July 8, Dedaar Jhooty was sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison. The court also imposed a DNA order and a lifetime firearms prohibition.
On Aug. 14, 2021, at around 2:09 a.m., the Sea-to-Sky RCMP responded to the Whistler Medical Clinic after a male had attended suffering from a stabbing. Police arrived and learned the victim had died because of his injuries.
IHIT assumed conduct of the investigation and identified the victim as Henry Stanley Garcia Molina who was 26 years old at the time. Through the assistance of witnesses, investigators determined that Molina had been attacked in the 4100 block of Village Green. An extensive video canvass in the area led to the identification of several persons of interest.
IHIT worked in close partnership with the Sea-to-Sky RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Service (IFIS), the BC Coroners Service and the RCMP Forensic Laboratory Services to advance the investigation.
On June 22, 2022, then 22-year-old Jhooty was arrested and subsequently charged with manslaughter.
On July 16, 2024, Jhooty pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
“Mr. Garcia Molina had his whole life ahead of him which was taken away due to a senseless act of violence,” said Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT. “Our thoughts continue to be with his family as the court proceedings come to a conclusion.”
