Burnaby rider furious at loss of Metrotown bus stops

Seniors and people with disabilities will suffer from the loss of seven bus stops in the Metrotown area, says a Burnaby transit user.

Nathan Davidowicz contacted the Burnaby NOW after noticing signs posted at multiple stops on routes 146 and 147.

The signs warn the bus stops will be inactive until May 2020, but don’t offer any explanation. They just instruct riders to board inside the Metrotown loop, bay seven. The stops impact the area bounded by Imperial, Beresford, Sussex and Willingdon.

Davidowicz said the change could add up to 10 minutes in walking time for some riders.

The NOW contacted TransLink, which said seven stops are affected and four stops are being added to the detour.

Construction is to blame for the situation, said TransLink.

“Routes 146 and 147 are affected in the area just south of Metrotown due to several construction projects,” said a TransLink email.

  1. MetroVan watermain project along Maywood Street with lane and roadway closures;
  2. Multiple highrise residential developments along Cassie, McKay and Silver under construction.

“There should be less scheduled detours in the coming months as the projects progress,” said TransLink.
