The city is looking for public feedback as the long-stalled Little Mountain redevelopment project moves forward.
The 6-storey, 70-unit structure proposed for 4902 James St. is one of a few meant to replace what was there in 2009 when over 200 units of public housing were torn down. The first new building opened up in August 2014 with 53 units. This project is the second for the new Little Mountain site; all units will be social housing according to the application's documents.
Feedback is needed on the development application. In the application the new building is described as sitting along the site's spine; it's expected a north-south route will exist on the site in the future running alongside 4092 James St.
"This public central street will connect to the city grid and contain generous space allocations for pedestrians and cyclists," states the design rationale document. "Designed to a high standard, this street will be traffic-calmed to reduce vehicle speeds and shortcutting, and offer street furniture, trees and landscaping, art, lighting and signage to attract pedestrians and cyclists. The central spine will serve as the setting for the neighbourhood’s community life, where neighbours can meet and interact with one another."
The developer behind the project, Holborn Properties, does have a website for the Little Mountain development, but it doesn't offer much information about the site.
"The soon-to-be-unveiled community will stay true to the neighbourhood's heritage," states the site.
Other recent projects from Holborn include University Heights by Holborn, Trump Vancouver and Thunderbird Creek.
