A climate rally will block off traffic in Vancouver next week.
On Friday (Sept. 15), protesters will march through Downtown Vancouver calling for stronger action on climate change.
In Vancouver, the rally will begin outside of Vancouver City Hall at 1 p.m. then march across the Cambie Street Bridge and along Smithe Street to the Vancouver Art Gallery where the event will conclude at 4 p.m.
Vancouver's Kendall Gender, Ndidi Cascade, and Aaron Ross of the Boom Booms will be performing along the route. At the art gallery there will be speeches from journalist Brandi Morin, writer Severn Cullis-Suzuki, activist Janelle Lapointe, and many more.
"Here in Canada, we have experienced the worst wildfire season ever with approximately 13 million hectares of forest burned, and 211 evacuation orders issued so far, far outreaching any previous years," reads a news release. "The rally will call on governments to uphold and centre Indigenous sovereignty as part of necessary decolonization processes."
