Ontario man arrested in Vancouver for alleged assault, car-jacking

He is also wanted for crimes in Alberta and Ontario.

The VPD arrested a man from Ontario after he allegedly assaulted a senior and stole a car.

A man from Ontario has been arrested and is facing numerous charges after an assault and car-jacking in Vancouver. 

The crime spree began around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday (Dec. 21) when a 76-year-old man was punched in the face by a stranger and knocked to the ground while walking near Columbia Street and West 1st Avenue in Mount Pleasant. 

The senior was taken to hospital with injuries. 

Shortly after, a 79-year-old woman and another 82-year-old senior were getting out of a car on Athletes Way in nearby Olympic Village when a man allegedly grabbed the driver's keys, got into the car, and drove off, striking several vehicles near Main Street and East 2nd Avenue as he fled. 

Vancouver police located the stolen car travelling through East Vancouver after several witnesses called 911. Officers stopped the car and arrested the driver near Victoria Street and East 33rd Avenue. 

A 41-year-old man was taken to jail for robbery, assault, theft, and driving offences. 

He is also wanted for crimes in Alberta and Ontario.
