'We will truly miss seeing you': Kitsilano restaurant closing after over 30 years of breakfasts

"Come and say goodbye and we will try not to cry. ❤️💔," say the owners.

After more than 30 years of serving breakfast and mid-morning meals, Nelly's Grill is turning off that grill.

"With heavy hearts and deep sadness, we would like to announce that Nelly's Grill will be closing our doors permanently by the end of July 2022," says the restaurant on its Facebook page.

In the heartfelt post, the owners talk about how close they've become with the community in the area.

"Something about Nelly's always felt like your home away from home," they say. "Unfortunately things happen beyond our control and people bigger than us can crush dreams, sadly. We love you all. Come and say goodbye and we will try not to cry."

The small brunch place, located near Arbutus at 2061 W 4th Ave, is one of several brunch places within a couple of blocks of Kitsilano, along with Jam Cafe and Sophie's Cosmic Cafe.

Nelly's is best-known for a slate of fun morning foods, with specials like brownie pancakes, and Thanksgiving-inspired eggs benedict. Recently they had chicken-and-waffle cones, with eggs and Hollandaise sauce set up like ice cream cones.

"We will truly miss seeing you on the regular," the independent family-run business added. "Thank you for coming in and being part of what made us Nelly's."
