The 29th annual Concord Pacific Vancouver Dragon Boat Festival kicks off with a bang—on the drums, that is—on June 25.

“In the music community, the festival is starting to be a destination for touring bands,” says artistic director Cal Koat. “At the start of the new year, I was already flooded with interest from performers wanting to play the World Beat Stage."

Hitting the stage are some of Canada’s hottest acts, featuring plenty of homegrown talent, including: Kutapira!, the BC Music Collective (a superband of 13 musicians from 7 nations), Alonso, Samson’s Delilah, the Big Easy Funk Ensemble, Camaro ’67, CARACAS, Kiérah, Mostly Marley, Mngwa and more.

You can also work off some of the delicious dining options by visiting the Family Fun Zones, which feature wall climbing and a wipeout game and obstacle course that is sure to bring plenty of laughs.

If you’re feeling a bit more competitive, flex your muscles at the Steve Nash Fitness World Guts and Glory Women races.

For those of you more comfortable taking in the excitement from behind the scenes, be sure to have your cameras ready for the 50-foot unicycle dragon from Circus Aston, maritime clown, LED robot stilt walker Neezar Joseph, Chinese Lion dancers and Kung fu demonstators, as well as calming Tai Chi sessions.
