WestJet's discount carrier Swoop is selling flights from Abbotsford YXX airport to Edmonton YEG airport and Toronto YYZ at a steal in January 2023.

Travellers can enjoy significant savings on already low-cost airfare to several destinations in Canada today.

WestJet's discount carrier, Swoop, is offering 50 per cent off of base fares to select cities as part of its weekly FlyDay deal. Each week, the airline sells tickets on popular routes for less for the sale, although they don't always include Abbotsford.

This week, however, locals can take advantage of two routes out of the Lower Mainland: Edmonton and Toronto.

The sale is valid on travel between March 1 and March 31. To take advantage of the offer, book the ticket by 10:59 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 20, or until tickets sell out. Use the promotional code FlyDay during the checkout process to redeem your savings.

For example, a one-way flight from Abbotsford International Airport (YXX) to Edmonton International Airport (YEG) regularly costs as little as $18.99 for the lowest fare class. With the promotion, however, travellers can take 60 per cent off the base fare. The base fare for the flight is $7.02, which means that $4.21 can be subtracted from the total.

The final cost of the ticket works out to $14.78 including all taxes and fees.

Get cheap flights to Toronto as part of the Swoop sale

Locals can also get cheap flights to Toronto as part of the FlyDay offer.

For example, a one-way flight from YXX to the Lester B. Pearson International Airport (YYZ) in Toronto regularly costs as little as $59 for the lowest fare class on multiple dates in March. With the promotion, however, travellers can take 50 per cent off the base fare. The base fare for the flight is $45.12, which means that $22.56 can be subtracted from the total. The final cost of the ticket works out to $36.44 including all taxes and fees.

There is a bus that travels from Metro Vancouver to the YXX airport. A one-way transfer costs about $46.82 and there are several departures throughout the day.

Travellers are picked up from Vancouver's Pacific Central Station, located at 1150 Station St., and ride the bus for just under 90 minutes (depending on traffic) to Abbotsford. They are dropped off outside of the main terminal entrance at YXX.

Don't forget to purchase a domestic travel insurance policy for travel outside of B.C. There are several medical services that you won't be covered for in other provinces, as well as some travel costs.
