Metro Vancouver ‘Mompreneur’ selected as finalist for national award

"One of the things I think is interesting about this award is how much it draws together the female entrepreneur community for both recognition and for supporting one another."

A Richmond female entrepreneur is amongst 26 Canadian finalists competing for an award at Mompreneur’s Annual National Conference in March.

Lyndsay Scott, CEO of Culture Kefir Co., will be attending the conference competing with four other female entrepreneurs for Mompreneur’s Start-Up Award, which recognizes the hard work and dedication of female business owners starting up in Canada.

“We’re really excited. It’s an honour and a wonderful surprise,” said Scott, adding that the award is about the work that goes into starting up a new business, but also building it while being a mom and a parent.

Culture Kefir Co started in Scott’s kitchen as a project for her family, with her youngest son having severe eczema and asthma when he was 2 years old.

All of the prescriptions and hospital visits, according to Scott, weren’t improving his conditions.

She then made it her mission to find some relief for him and began learning about probiotics and gut health.

Scott now uses probiotic-rich water kefir and infuses it with nutrient-rich foods to produce a beverage.

Scott told the Richmond News she wasn’t aware of the nomination until Mompreneur made a live Facebook announcement to all the finalists on Jan. 10.

The nomination was from another business owner who Scott knew.

“One of the things I think is interesting about this award is how much it draws together the female entrepreneur community for both recognition and for supporting one another,” she added.

Of the 1,200 nominations received, 136 entrants advanced to public voting and a selection committee, which resulted in the 26 finalists.

The finalists will be evaluated for prestigious awards with the top prize valued at over $30,000 in cash and business services.

Winners will be announced at the eighth Annual National Mompreneurs Conference from March 27 to 28 in Toronto.
