PHOTOS: Dîner en Blanc VS the Goth Picnic

A photo gallery of contrasting annual picnics in Vancouver, where attendees where either all white or all black

There's no shortage of opinions on Dîner en Blanc Vancouver. Or perhaps I should say there's no shortage of people with negative opinions of it who would like to tell you how much they dislike it, and why.

While thousands attend the all-white affair and enjoy themselves still thousands more participate in the annual event in a different way; by throwing stones at it on social media. Going further (and perhaps putting their money where their mouth is), some have organized their dislike into a annual counter-event called Ce Soir Noir, where attendees dress all in black and there is no sign up fee.

As there's so far no Grey Vancouver event, we decided to bring together a gallery of images from the black and white events which happened in our city last night.

They probably didn't put this Eiffel tower on the skytrain to bring it to the venue.

And these guys probably didn't get hammered.

If you don't like Dîner en Blanc you likely hate the tradition of waving your napkin in the air to signal the start of the thing.

A marching band dressed in all black made their way to Crab Park for Ce Soir Noir 2018.

These two had a good time dressed in black.

I wish there was a photo from the Goth Picnic that I could use to contrast this one, but sadly they did not have human statues painted up in Crab Park.

That's an expensive bottle of PBR.

This girl is a pretty great example of someone with an open mind and a full heart. She attended DEBVAN one year and Ce Soir Noir the next, sharing the contrasting photos of herself at both events.
