December is the month to celebrate in style tis the season when glitzy party dresses and trendy bowties mingle over cocktails, conversation and occasionally, the dance floor.
Vancouverites tend to step up their efforts when making holiday appearances, so why not take the opportunity to grab a quick photo? From Smartphones to compact system cameras, Cayas expert Matchmaker of Merchandise and photo specialist, Billy Flanigan, recommends a few simple tips on capturing the moments to savour and share.
Are you ready for your close up? Whether you practice model shots in the mirror (weve all seen them on Facebook) or posing with your favourite four-legged companion, get to know your camera or Smartphone. Nothing spoils the mood faster than asking your friends to hold a smile while you fumble through the settings. From blink detection to smile shutter, the latest technology can turn you into a pro faster than you can say Instagram.
Keep your options open: Be prolific. Get snap happy and come home with an abundance of spectacular holiday images. Many cameras and Smartphones have multi-frame, video and panoramic options. Its always better to have an abundance of shots or videos to choose from post-holiday soirée.
Keep it light: Shooting under harsh lighting (like fluorescents) or having the sun behind your loyal subjects wont produce a top notch photo. Your friends and family are more likely to stick around if you take flattering shots with softer lighting.
Act natural: Holiday mingling is a prerequisite, staging the perfect photo is not. Candid shots are far more festive than those once-upon-a-time posed family portraits.
Smiles, everyone, smiles: Unless your name is the Grinch, show off those pearly whites. Spread the holiday cheer with a big smilejust be sure those holiday sweets arent stuck in your teeth!
