To the editor: Re: “ When nimbyism and lack of communication collide ,” Dec. 18. Fiona Hughes’ column really struck a chord with me, since I have lived in social housing (a housing co-op) for the past 16 and a half years.

If you didn’t know, Canada is synonymous with winter. The season that barely manages to frost windows in Vancouver is the pinnacle of our national identity, rival only to (the myth of) multiculturalism and red maple leaf mittens.

Sadly, another year of hunting, gathering and toiling as an overpaid word merchant is over. Sniff, cough, sigh.

Cue the champagne, New Year countdown and someone to share a kiss with to kick start 2014. Personally, I’ve never been a fan of subscribing to high priced New Years Eve events.

A friend recalled the great Jimmy Breslin’s concept of recounting people for whom he no longer had any time. It strikes me as a healthy, cleansing way to close out the year. So here’s a “2013 List of People With Whom I Am No Longer on Speaking Terms.

We now live in world where people are obsessed with keeping a pictorial record of their life.
