WE ARE VANCVR: Sarah Reid, Designer

Vancouver is an amazing city, chock full of creative talent. WE ARE VANCVR is a simple, elegant way to showcase all that talent in one place. Every Tuesday we profile one individual from the VANCVR community. VANCVR.com is a Domain7 Labs project.

Graphic designers have a reputation for liking things neat and tidy, but Vancouver-based creative Sarah Reid has no scruples getting her hands a bit mucky. After nearly eight years as a designer for the Canadian Red Cross, where her designs were mostly conceived on screen, she has branched out on her own—freeing up time for making a mess in her studio. There she translates her love for music and style through screenprinting, upholstery and lovely hand-lettering. We fell for her clean illustrations and crisp typography. Check out her work, and find out why she likes being a creative in Vancouver, after the jump.

What do you do?

I am a designer. I’ve worked for a non-profit for many years, while balancing a breadth of fantastic clients & contracts. I feel very fortunate right now to be working on some wonderfully diverse projects.

Why do you love being a creative in Vancouver?

I love being a creative in Vancouver because of all the other lovely people doing amazingly creative things. Whether I’m checking out a live show, eating delicious food, or attending one of the many brilliant creative events in the city, I always walk away feeling very blessed to live here. The creative community in Vancouver is made up of such talented people who continually challenge, support and inspire me.

How would you like to collaborate with other local creatives?

Some of my great loves include music, books and food & drink – so I’m happy when I get to collaborate on projects that incorporate my passions. I also really love making things with my hands, so I enjoy projects where I get to make a bit of a mess. The best projects are ones where we can learn & grow from each other's unique skills & expertise. Whether you’re a designer or a farmer – let’s find a fun way to work together.
